Yet the market's heft belies the challenges for brands in connecting with the country's coveted 1.4 billion customers, particularly given the rise of social media, one of China's most influential advertising entrepreneurs said in a recent interview. “Everyone is focusing on traffic-generating advertising,” with many eyeing social media influencers, said Jason Jiang, chairman of Shanghai-headquartered Focus Media. “But the market is becoming increasingly saturated with traffic, and brand recognition is becoming shallower,” said Jiang, who holds a fortune worth an estimated $4.8 billion on the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires List today.
