China's JD.com has launched Joybuy in Europe, set to take Amazon on diretly. (Photo by Samuel Boivin/NurPhoto via Getty Images) NurPhoto via Getty Images Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com has expanded into the U.K. and several European markets with today's launch of online retail platform Joybuy , marking a significant step in the company's international growth strategy as competition intensifies in its home market. The Beijing-based retailer, founded by billionaire Liu Qiangdong (also known as Richard Liu), is positioning the new service as a fast-delivery alternative to Amazon. The platform is launching simultaneously across six European markets: the U.K., Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Through Joybuy, JD.com will sell a wide variety of goods ranging from consumer electronics and home appliances to beauty products, toys and groceries.
