Poolbeg Pharma PLC (AIM:POLB, OTC:POLBF, FRA:POLBF) , the clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, is heading into its most consequential period since flotation, as interim data from its lead drug candidate POLB 001 approaches and a second trial prepares to start. POLB 001 is designed as an oral preventative therapy for cytokine release syndrome (CRS), a potentially life-threatening inflammatory reaction that affects more than 70% of patients receiving CAR T-cell and bispecific antibody cancer treatments. The TOPICAL study (Trial of Prevention of ImmunoCytokine Adverse events in Myeloma), being conducted at leading haematology centres including The Christie, The Royal Marsden, and University College London Hospitals, is expected to generate interim data this summer.
