And while their car might not have been imagined as electric (is that a smoke ring following behind it?), it was probably the inspiration for the flying vehicles being designed today. The Jetsons aside, there has been a lot of talk over the last two years about electric flying cars , which are formally known as electric autonomous passenger drones that are a “eVTOL” (electric vertical takeoff and lift). Because I am fortunate enough to be in the high-tech industry, I get introduced to technology before it hits the mainstream. Here are three companies that have made big announcements in the past few months: • Volkswagen is the first company. A year ago, it announced the release date of its first prototype, the V.MO Flying Tiger .
