JOF's portfolio includes both domestic and export-oriented businesses, but its foreign market exposure is less than the broader index, which can be accessed cheaply. Despite similar ROE and sales growth to category averages, JOF trades at ~30% lower P/E and P/B, suggesting a value case exists. But we'd prefer to run with our own picks when taking bets in the domestic Japanese market in the mid- and small-cap space and avoid the expense.
