Asian markets move higher as investors assess improving China trade data New York/Hong Kong (CNN Business) Asian markets moved higher Tuesday as investors weigh new data about how the global economy has been coping with the coronavirus pandemic . Japan's Nikkei 225 ( N225 ) rose 2.2%. South Korea's Kospi ( KOSPI ) gained 1.6%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng ( HSI ) and China's Shanghai Composite ( SHCOMP ) each rose 0.8%. Investors are turning their attention to China, which released trade data Tuesday showing that exports fell 11.4% in the first quarter compared to a year earlier, as measured in yuan terms. Imports fell 0.7%. The drop in exports in March, though, was substantially better than earlier in the year as China began reopening its economy. US stock futures built on early gains after the data was published. Dow ( INDU ) futures were up 280 points, or around 1.2%. S&P 500 ( SPX ) futures were also up about 1.2%, while Nasdaq ( COMP ) futures were up around
