The price of oil has continued to rise in recent days, pushing stock indexes like the Dow Jones Industrial Average lower. As I write this at Wednesday's market close, Brent crude, the international benchmark, is trading at about $93 a barrel, more than $20 higher than its price before the war in Iran began. As a result of spiking energy prices, the Dow turned negative for the year on March 5 and has continued to fall. It's down about 4.5% since the Iran war began and 1.3% in the red for 2026.
