Analyst Doug Anmuth writes that the bank “remain[s] constructive on overall digital trends & Internet secular leaders, with AI once again the primary focus,” but stresses the need for companies to show “greater returns on AI investments in 2026.” The backdrop is mixed. JPMorgan notes that in 2025, performance was driven by “AI narratives & strategies,” with Alphabet up 69 percent, while the broader internet group rose just 13 percent, lagging the S&P 500's 17 percent gain. Amazon and Meta both posted single-digit to low-double-digit returns amid “mixed AI investor perception against heavy capex spending.” That spending is set to intensify.
