The price of a barrel of Brent crude oil fell below $60 per barrel on Tuesday, with traders betting that a potential peace agreement would ramp up global supplies. It comes as the price of Brent is on track for its fifth consecutive monthly fall, its longest streak in 11 years. It is currently hovering at just above $59, down from $70 this time last year. West Texas Intermediate, the US benchmark, is also trading at around $56 a barrel, its weakest level since 2021. The US president raised the prospect of peace on Monday after holding talks with European officials and a delegation from Kyiv. As part of negotiations, Volodymyr Zelensky has signalled that he is willing to give up hopes of Ukraine joining Nato , in exchange for security guarantees from the US and Europe. Mr Trump has issued an ultimatum for Kyiv to accept his peace deal by Christmas, although Ukrainian officials have warned this could mean surrendering territory to Russia.
