Non-essential retail will not be going back to “business as usual” anytime soon. Malls, which were already struggling to drive traffic and relevancy for consumers, are particularly vulnerable. Pretty much their entire value proposition is as a gathering place – an activity that will be prohibited or restricted, or flat out perceived as too risky by consumers.To address this, malls need to enable the stores inside to sell while also enabling social distancing. Stores that have their own storefronts – even anchor stores in malls – have the advantage of serving customers without having to let them into the building, through what is now coming to be known as BOPAC, or Buy Online Pickup At
