KBR Services LLC, which provides logistics and maintenance support at the Army center, has targeted May 6 for the layoffs at Fort Irwin, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The bulk of the expected layoffs will affect 35 tactical vehicle mechanics, 15 lead mechanics and nine warehouse workers, according to a state filing. The company reported that 758 workers at the center were notified about the layoffs. The worksite layoffs at Fort Irwin, located north of Barstow, were announced via a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing, and included the mention of Building No. 896 on Langford Lake Road. KBR Services, a subsidiary of Houston-based KBR Inc., cited a "decrease in work allocated from customers" in its filing with the California Employment Development Department.
