The club permanently closed last year. It was an 18-hole golf course on 136 acres that was designed by famed architect A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1929. Attempts to sell it and develop it go back at least 15 years and have involved multiple proposals. 2G Eatontown, based in Colts Neck, is the new owner of 72½ acres of the former golf course, having purchased it from the previous owner, Surrey Equities, which in turn had bought it from Old Orchard Country Club Associates. The agreement inked on Wednesday, Feb. 25, does not deviate from the plan the borough's planning board approved for Surrey Equities in 2024 for 145 age-restricted single-family homes and a 1,153-square-foot clubhouse. The agreement also maintains the 35? acres of open space and the buffer zones that were approved in 2024.
