Starting in 2022, as the Federal Reserve raised the fed funds rate at a pace not seen since the 1980s, it dragged up the interest rates banks passed on to their customers. Markets had expected relief to come as soon as March in the form of a rate cut. But that timing has since been pushed back, with the earliest expected cut now priced in for September. This means the pressure on borrowers and their lenders will not likely ease soon.
