LGI Homes ( NASDAQ: LGIH ) all to Underperform from Neutral on Tuesday as analyst Jay McCanless sees a "normal seasonal stock price decline" taking hold "into the summer." All of the aforementioned builders dipped in Tuesday morning trading: Lennar ( LEN , D.R. Horton ( DHI , Century Communities ( CCS , Meritage Homes ( MTH , LGI Homes ( LGIH This year "has been the most 'normal' year we have seen for the home building industry since 2019 in terms of normal seasonality," McCanless wrote in a note. With housing affordability at historical lows, amid elevated mortgage rates and home prices, the builders have been implementing price cuts and other incentives to drive volume, he noted. "The net result has been gross margin negative for those builders with gross margins coming in generally below consensus estimates for F4Q22 and F4Q23 for each of these names."
