Storion Energy Accelerates U.S. Vanadium Electrolyte Production with DOE MAKE IT Prize Support [Yahoo! Finance]

Battery (VRFB) components, is pleased to announce it has secured its first customer for vanadium electrolyte from its continuous production line established with support from the U.S. Department of Energy's Manufacture of Advanced Key Energy Infrastructure Technologies (MAKE IT) Prize. Since receiving the $5M prize award in 2024, Storion has been working to rapidly scale domestic production of cost-effective vanadium electrolyte, a key component of long-duration energy storage (LDES) systems, in anticipation of a 36% per year (CAGR) projected growth of VRFB deployments. Such growth is expected to reach 30-35 GWh by 2031 (~$8 billion), including 5.8 GWh in North America, before the acceleration of data center demand for LDES. The first electrolyte customer will take advantage of Storion's novel leasing agreement using vanadium owned by Largo Physical Vanadium Corp. (TSXV:VAND, OTCQX:VANAF), and will deliver 50 MWh of electrolyte to TerraFlow Energy for a 9.6 MW/ 5-hour VRFB install
