The maker of Post-it sticky notes last month said it expected to report first-quarter earnings of as much as $2.20 a share, up from $2.00 previously expected, sending its stock 5% higher. Following this, the industrial conglomerate was upgraded to Overweight by Barclays from a previous investment rating of Equal Weight, eyeing profit margin expansion on the back of a new CEO. During the reporting quarter, 3M appointed former chairman and CEO of L3Harris Technologies, William Brown, as its new chief executive, starting May. 3M recently announced moving closer to its $6 billion settlement over litigation regarding the earplugs it made for U.S. soldiers. More than 99% of the claimants opted to participate in the settlement. Among the 293,000 claims, more than 249,000 claimants registered to participate, while more than 41,000 claims were dismissed by courts.
