Defense Contractor L3 Technologies Surges As It Prepares To Enter Big Leagues The management of L3 Technologies did something unusual this week. It invited reporters who cover the defense business to meet with its senior leaders and hear where the company is headed. The old L3—the enterprise that existed before Christopher E. Kubasik took over as Chief Executive Officer in 2017—didn’t do that sort of thing. It was the least visible big military contractor in America. But L3 now is poised to become much bigger when it merges later this year with Florida-based Harris Corporation, which itself is a sizable federal contractor. The all-stock transaction, announced last year as a “merger of equals,” will create the sixth largest defense contractor in the world. And two years after the deal is consummated, Kubasik—a former Lockheed Martin executive—will become chief executive of the combination.
