Eli Lilly just got FDA approval for Foundayo, a once-daily weight-loss pill that does what Ozempic does without the needle. At $149 a month on the low end, it's being pitched as accessible. Whether it stays that way once India's generic machine gets fully into gear is a different question entirely. WHAT HAPPENED The FDA approved Lilly's oral GLP-1 drug, orforglipron, on Wednesday under the brand name Foundayo, making it one of the first approved oral drugs specifically for obesity. The pill does roughly what injectable drugs like Zepbound and Ozempic do, minus the syringe. Clinical trials showed patients losing 12% to 15% of body weight, or slightly below the ceiling set by the most powerful injectables, but firmly in clinically meaningful territory. It launches April 6, starting on LillyDirect before rolling out to pharmacies and telehealth platforms.
