Shares of Southwest Airlines Co. rallied 4.0% in premarket trading Tuesday, after the air carrier reported a narrower-than-expected loss, while revenue fell more than forecast. The company swung to a net loss of $94 million, or 18 cents a share, from net income of $387 million, or 70 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding non-recurring items, the adjusted per-share loss was 15 cents, beating the FactSet loss consensus of 37 cents. Revenue fell 18% to $4.23 billion, below the FactSet consensus of $4.52 billion, citing sharp decline in demand and bookings starting in late February, and an "unprecedented" level of trip cancellations in March. Load factor fell to 67.7% from 81.0% to miss expectations of 78.4%. The company said passenger demand and booking have continued to be weak in April, with revenue expected to decrease 90% to 95% from a year ago and load factor is estimated to be about 6%.
