Hobbs's Worldview Long before he became a globally renowned winemaker, Paul Hobbs was a farm kid in upstate New York. One of eleven children, he spent most of his young life sleeping in a barn with six of his siblings and taking spur-of-the-moment family road trips. GO TO PAGE “Travel was always spontaneous,” Hobbs said. “My father would just tell us at the dinner table the night before, ‘We're going to Mexico—be ready at 6 a.m.'” They'd pile into cars and trust the adventure to shape itself. “There was no master plan… we just did things as they came up.” He didn't know it then, but those chaotic family trips taught him some vital things that he would later need as a winemaker influencing the world. “Traveling has always been an easy thing for me and an enjoyable thing,” he said.
