move by the Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-backed craft brand to position itself as a luxury player in the category. The tequila is distilled from 100% lowlands blue weber agave, aged in 18 months in European oak casks and finished for 414 days in sherry casks, which the brand says results in notes of ripe fruit, dark chocolate and warm spice. The company is producing 1,774 white Carrara marble vessels for the limited-edition run in a collaboration with ARCA, a supplier of natural stone, porcelain and wood. Carlos Pechieu says the new expression is something of a nod to the popularity of rare Scotch whiskies, which can command lofty prices for their decades-old spirits. Tequila, however, cannot be aged as long because the liquid would lose its agave flavor in the cask. “Aging will always be a component, but it's not an absolute,” says Pechieu during a virtual interview.
