The Cuban citizen has been in ICE custody for the last four months, and the agency has so far refused to release him. In the early morning hours of May 15, 2024, the 51-year-old Louisville man was driving for Lyft when he accepted a fare on his phone. He arrived at the 1000 block of Sale Avenue in the Wyandotte neighborhood and stopped the car to let a man inside. Suddenly, the passenger brandished a handgun and ordered Sosa Ordonez to get out of the car. When Sosa Ordonez didn't move quickly enough, the man, identified by authorities as 24-year-old Amontre Easton, fired two shots near Sosa Ordonez's head. Miraculously uninjured, Sosa Ordonez got out of the car, and Easton allegedly drove away. The events that followed the carjacking would prove the lengths to which the federal government, under President Donald Trump, is willing to detain and deport noncitizens.
