Private equity firm Carlyle has seized control of The Very Group, ending the Barclay family's involvement in the retailer after two decades. The US fund has taken over Very, which also owns the Littlewoods brand, having kept the business afloat over the past year as its main creditor. IMI, the Abu Dhabi fund involved in efforts to take control of The Telegraph , will remain a lender to Very as part of the agreement. The change of ownership highlights the unravelling of the Barclay family's business empire, which imploded following a dispute with Lloyds Banking Group over unpaid debts. This led to Lloyds taking control of The Telegraph in 2023 before the family's delivery business, Yodel, was later sold to a rival start-up for £1.
