Related news IBD Long-Term Leader stock Mastercard ( MA ) topped Q1 earnings forecasts early Wednesday while cross-border volumes slipped amid economic lockdowns, ahead of Visa's ( V ) fiscal Q2 results after the close Thursday. Estimates: Wall Street expected Mastercard earnings per share to slip 2% to $1.74, according to Zacks Investment Research. Revenue was seen ticking up 2% to $3.97 billion. Mastercard previously gave a revenue warning for the first quarter. Results: EPS of $1.83 on revenue of $4 billion. Gross dollar volume grew 8% on a local currency basis to $1.6 trillion. Switched transactions increased 13%, but cross-border volume was down 1% on a local currency basis. But for the week ended April 21, cross-border volume sank 49%, switched transactions were down 20%, and switched volume fell 20%.
