Manchester United believe they are close to agreeing a deal to bring the Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes to Old Trafford this week. After nearly a month of tense negotiations United are confident they achieved a significant breakthrough with the Portuguese club on Tuesday. Sporting Lisbon are now on the brink of accepting United’s new and improved offer of €55 million up front and €25 million in add-ons The additional fees are €10 million of realistic clauses covering Premier League and Champions League appearances by the player, and then €15 million worth of more difficult clauses, including winning the Ballon d’Or. Personal terms are still to be agreed with Fernandes, but they should not be an obstacle for a player who has always wanted to move to the Premier League. It is expected that Fernandes will travel to Manchester on either Wednesday or Thursday this week to have a medical and sign his contract before making his United debut against Wolves at Old Trafford on Satur
