The fast-food giant, which kicks off earnings season for the sector on Thursday, should post relatively healthy numbers but still could feel the drag of the latest Covid-19 wave, including staffing shortages, according to their research note. Consequently, the analysts pared down their earnings per-share estimates below consensus for this year, despite McDonald's (ticker: MCD) strong performance last year. Shares gained 25%, compared with 11% for rivals. Oppenheimer rates the company an Outperform with a price target of $290 and puts its 2022 EPS estimates at 8 cents below consensus, which was $10.14, according to FactSet. With three weeks into 2022, McDonald's is down 5%, compared with 12% industrywide. In midmorning trading, shares were off 1.4%, at $251.22. The S&P 500 was off 2.2% and the Dow industrials were off 1.8%.
