Alstom, which owns the Litchurch Lane plant in Derby employing 3,000 people, said the share and bond sale, together with €700m in disposals already announced, will prevent its credit rating being cut to junk status. The company announced plans for a €2bn refinancing last year after revealing a huge drop off in cash flows linked to the delayed delivery of trains built at the Derby factory, which it inherited from its takeover of Canadian rival Bombardier in 2021. The announcement last October sent shares in Paris-listed Alstom down by more than a third and raised the spectre of a credit downgrade after it was put on watch by ratings agency Moody's. Henri Poupart-Lafarge, chief executive of Alstom, said on Tuesday that the refinancing means Alstom is now “set on stronger foundations to deliver sustainable profit and cash generation.” Alstom aims to execute the €1bn share sale and €750m hybrid bonds issue no later than September.
