Meta stock drops as company ramps up AI investment [Yahoo! Finance]

Facebook parent company Meta on Wednesday announced a further ramp up in its spending on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, sending its shares down by about 6% in after-hours trading. For the current year, the tech giant now expects capital investments of between $125 billion and $145 billion, supported by continued growth in its advertising business. The previous range, announced three months ago, stood at $115 billion to $135 billion. In 2025, the company spent around $72 billion, primarily on expanding data centres for AI. Growth in the advertising business The money for the AI expansion continues to come from Meta's booming advertising business. In the past quarter, the group's total revenue rose by about a third year-over-year to $56.3 billion. Profit jumped by 61% to around $26.8 billion.
