As part of the Q3-25 results, management increased the lower end of the 2025 CapEx guidance range to $70 billion, a sharp increase from the $37.2 billion reported in 2024. To ensure that the company is not missing out on any transformative opportunities, Meta's corporate strategy has been to front-load capital deployments towards AI infrastructure. In my view, this makes the company particularly vulnerable to the risk of overbuilding computing capacity, as illustrated by the Hyperion data center campus that could scale up to 5GW. The personal computer and the internet indeed changed the world, but that did not prevent the boom from turning into a bust.
