For many Canadians approaching retirement, the biggest regret isn't a missed market opportunity but waiting too long to get professional advice. New research from Manulife suggests those who work with a financial advisor are more likely to feel prepared and less likely to experience financial stress once they stop working. According to Manulife's 2025 report, The 40-year retirement – balancing dollars and dreams , which surveyed more than 2000 Canadian workers and retirees, only 56 per cent say they feel knowledgeable when it comes to selecting and managing investments, and just 40 per cent work with a financial advisor. Among retirees without an advisor, 34 per cent say they are more financially stressed now than when they were working. For those with an advisor, that figure drops to 17 per cent. Julie Seberras, head of wealth planning and practice management at Manulife, says those numbers reflect the fact that retirement planning is about much more than choosing investment
