Thankfully, a few still embrace this positioning and continue to push the envelop The golden age of party hotels is well and truly behind us. I lived through this era in Los Angeles in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, which also happens to be the heyday of that fallen city. These were the peak years of The Standard hotel, which had locations in both West Hollywood and downtown. The WeHo location featured a live, semi-nude female model laying in a glass case located directly behind the reception desk. The downtown location featured the best rooftop club I've ever been to, complete with a pool and red cuddle pods with room for four people. This was my bachelor party venue, complete with the top-floor presidential suite with stairway access to the roof. One unique and very telling features of The Standard was its in-room trash cans. They were angled as opposed to vertical. Such that if you were in bed and needed to hurl, the trash can would be angled toward you for better accuracy. These
