Investors are reeling as we suffer through one of the most volatile periods in market history. Uncertainty around Donald Trump's tariffs has plunged stock markets into turmoil. The S&P 500 is down 7pc year-to-date, having recovered from a 15pc loss just weeks ago, while some of the world's largest companies – like chipmaker Nvidia – have shed more than 25pc. Meanwhile, hard-hit equities and turbulent bond markets have sent the price of gold surging. It climbed above $3,500 (£2,600) per ounce this week as concerns for the future of the world's largest economy triggered a flight to safe haven assets. But while some investors have run for safety, others have gone hunting for bargains. The Monday after Trump's “Liberation Day” was the busiest day ever for trades at Britain's biggest stockbroker, Hargreaves Lansdown.
