Castellanos signed a $100 million contract with the Phillies in March 2022, a week after the club signed Kyle Schwarber , who signed a five-year deal in December to remain in Philadelphia The two signings were a bat signal that Phillies managing partner John Middleton intended to win and was willing to spend money to do it. After signing with the Phillies, Castellanos endeared himself to fans at his introductory press conference by stating that he joined the club over others because he wanted to win.
