Mosaic stock falls after fertilizer maker swings to Q3 loss Shares of Mosaic Co. MOS, +3.29% fell more than 6% in the extended session Monday after the fertilizer company swung to a third-quarter loss, trimmed its guidance for the full year, and said it was temporarily cutting down on potash and phosphates production to match demand. "While the challenging market environment has persisted longer than we had anticipated, the actions we are taking give us an improved platform to deliver value and shareholder returns," said Mosaic CEO Joc O'Rourke said in a statement. Mosaic said it lost $44 million, or 11 cents a share, in the quarter, versus a profit of $248 million, or 64 cents a share, in the year-ago quarter. Adjusted for one-time items, Mosaic earned $29 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with 75 cents a share a year ago. Sales fell to $2.75 billion, from $2.93 billion a year ago. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected adjusted earnings of 22 cents a share on sales of $2.66
