Marathon Petroleum plans to operate its MLPs as stand-alone companies for the time being. Refining giant Marathon Petroleum ( NYSE:MPC ) recently completed its acquisition of rival refiner Andeavor. With that transaction came Andeavor's stake in master limited partnership (MLP ) Andeavor Logistics ( NYSE:ANDX ) . That company is now somewhat redundant since Marathon already controlled another MLP in MPLX ( NYSE:MPLX ) . However, instead of combining these two companies, the refiner plans to continue operating them as stand-alone entities, at least for now.
