At midday: TSX continues to rise despite drop in energy stocks Canada’s main stock index rose slightly on Thursday morning, aiming to extend a nine-day winning streak despite a drop in oil prices hurting the energy sector. At 11:3 a.m. ET, the Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was down 38.55 points, or .26 per cent, at 15,15.7. The energy sector dropped 1.1 per cent and was the lone decliner most among the 11 main sectors. Story continues below advertisement Benchmark U.S. crude oil fell 1.8 per cent to $51.37 a barrel in New York, while Brent crude, the international standard, declined 1.4 per cent to $6.49 a barrel in London. Husky Energy Inc. jumped 12 per cent, the most on the TSX, as the oil producer said it will not extend its hostile bid for MEG Energy after failing to get sufficient support from the rival’s board and shareholders.
