When it comes to getting your money back from a romance scam, it can be nearly an impossible task. Match Group 's CEO said he feels bad for victims, but "things happen in life." Romance scams typically targeting baby boomers and older generations are becoming increasingly popular on dating apps and websites, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Just last year, the FBI's Internet Crime Report estimated that Americans lost more than $650 million to romance scams. The FTC, which casts a wider net, reported that these scams also bilked a whopping $1.3 billion from Americans in 2022.
