Having realised that many of its customers in Africa can't afford data for the entire month, MTN has launched its own instant messaging platform. Called Ayoba Launched earlier in 2019 it is now operational in eight of MTN markets – Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Afghanistan and South Africa – but is only available currently for Android. MTN Group CEO, Rob Shuter says MTN wants to improve access to affordable communications so its people in its markets can reap the social, economic and developmental dividends of being online. Ayoba aims to bring more people into the digital world with affordable and simplified digital communication services.
