According to a Global Markets Strategy report, if bond yields move further up, the market will weaken like it did last summer. Analyst Mislav Matejka wrote that “if bond yields keep moving higher, against JPM call, that could be a continuing problem for corporates facing refinancing pressure,” and explained that if interest rates stay higher for longer -- as it may be the case -- companies that need to roll over existing debt or that need to borrow more capital will suffer. The report published a basket of highly leveraged companies that will likely need to access the market for capital and that could “appear quite vulnerable” in that situation. The basket has lagged the broader market by more than 10% since the start of 2023 and could remain under pressure. These are JPM's European losers of higher financing costs: Ocado Group Plc.
