When Nike athletes take the medal stand during the 2020 Olympics, the jacket and pant using 100 percent recycled polyester and the VaporMax sneaker with 75 percent recycled manufacturing waste offer an example of the sustainable initiatives undertaken by the apparel giant. From the medal stand wear to the new Space Hippie sneaker, a footwear collection that turned scrap material from factory floors into a fresh design, or even performance kits for the Olympics, Nike wants to use the stage of the global games to showcase an effort to recreate the way Nike — while working with other companies —places an importance on sustainability. “You’ve got this big moment where eyes are on a particular stage when you can use that stage to highlight what is possible,” says Noel Kinder, Nike chief sustainability officer. “You have a great moment and you have got to use that moment to see what is possible.” Using carbon reduction targets in line with the Paris Agreement, Nike has a wide range of goals
