The UK's index of the largest 100 companies on the London Stock Exchange closed at 8,023.87 on Monday, after jumping by 128 points or 1.6pc. The performance means the FTSE 100 beat its previous closing record of 8,014 set in February 2023. The blue-chip index climbed as high as 8,042.81 during Monday's session, although fell short of its all-time high of 8,047.06. The rally was triggered by an easing of heightened tensions in the Middle East, after Iran's recent attack on Israel fuelled fears of wider conflict in the region. Oil prices retreated after Iran on Friday downplayed Israel's retaliatory drone drake and said it did not plan to retaliate. A barrel of Brent crude oil dropped 0.3pc to $87.09 on Monday as markets were closing in London.
