The annual Best Cars for the Money list was released last week and two fully electric models were included in U.S. News & World Report's selection. For the Money The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV won “Best Compact EV SUV for the Money” while the 2026 Kia EV9 took the award for “Best Midsize EV SUV for the Money.” The Chevy starts at around $35,000 with over 300-mile range. The EV9 base is the Light RWD trim with 230-mile range starting at just under $55,000. With several new categories for 2026, those two all-electric models made the list, and another two were plug-in hybrids: the 2026 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid won “Best Compact Plug-In Hybrid SUV for the Money” and the 2026 Mazda CX-90 PHEV took it home for “Best Midsize Plug-In Hybrid SUV for the Money.” With the end of the federal tax credit for battery-powered cars in September, EV pricing has become a more salient issue.
