Voestalpine Almost Finished With A Fiscal Year To Forget Summary voestalpine has been hammered down on weak steel prices, rising costs, and growing concerns that the company's differentiated strategy isn't producing such differentiated results. Cost-cutting likely won't move the multiple, so management likely needs to start showing more results (or clearer plans) to improve its value-added mix. This fiscal year has seen some uncharacteristic mistakes from voestalpine, but I don't believe the company is broken. The bloom is off the steel cycle, but voestalpine shares look too cheap now. I was tentatively bullish on OTCPK:VLPNY VOES.VI back in December Although the shares did pretty well for a while thereafter, rising about 20% through early April, the shares have since been pounded (down about 25% from the April highs) on weak carbon steel prices in the U.S. and EU, rising input costs, and growing questions about whether voestalpine’s “high-quality strategy” and focus on value-added pr
