The increasing availability of so-called fat jabs, such as Mounjaro and Wegovy, coupled with their pill form rollout , will provide a significant boost to the aviation industry, according to analysts at Jefferies. A society that was 10pc slimmer overall would deliver an average weight saving of around 2pc per flight for airlines, Jefferies predicted. That would equate to a 1.5pc fuel saving, it said, enough to boost profits by 4pc or to provide scope for fare reductions. With the top four US airlines expected to spend a combined $39bn (£29bn) on fuel in 2025, or 20pc of total expenses, a 1.5pc reduction would save almost $600m. European airlines such as British Airways could expect similar levels of savings.
