Nasdaq shows signs of technical breakdown, crashes below 200-day moving average as selling accelerates The Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -4.08% on Wednesday showed signs of a technical breakdown late in the session, as the index associated with the technology and internet sector crumbled below a long-term trend line. The Nasdaq COMP, -4.08% fell below its 200-day moving average at 7,499.14, with a fall of 270 points, or 3.5%, to 7,471. The Nasdaq hasn't fallen below its 200-day MA since around July, according to FactSet data. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -3.15% was off 750 points, or 2.8%, at 25,686, on track for its worst session since Feb. 8, while the S&P 500 index SPX, -3.29% tumbled 2.9% at 2,797.
