Trisha Malfitano, founder of Perfect Imperfections Rescue and Sanctuary, confirmed to USA TODAY that Teigan died from complications related to Aspiration pneumonia, a lung infection. She passed a few weeks after a segment about her other medical conditions was filmed and three months before the 2026 Puppy Bowl was broadcast. According to Malfitano, Teigan was born with Cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition that affects large motor skills, and a twisted spine, causing her head to have a permanent tilt. "Unfortunately, her body was not able to recover. I was told she would always have this issue, and we took every precaution we could," Malfitano said. "She was held upright for feedings, burped and then used the cart to stay off her side to make sure she had clear airways." Pet wheelchair maker K9 Karts reached out to the Watertown, Connecticut, based non-profit on Aug. 5, 2025, to donate a cart to a puppy in need and have the opportunity to participate in the Puppy Bo
