an Indiana-based loan company over allegations that it charged millions in “junk fees.” OneMain Financial, a subprime personal loan lender headquartered in Evansville, Indiana, is accused of selling exorbitantly priced loans and charging customers hundreds of millions of dollars in hidden fees, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed on Monday by a bipartisan coalition of 13 state Attorney Generals. The stock price for OneMain Holdings Inc. , which trades on the New York Stock Exchange, fell as much as 12% following the news on Monday afternoon. The company, which has 26 locations in New Jersey, sold about $27 million worth of add-ons to New Jersey residents between 2021 and 2022, the state Attorney General's Office said. Despite promises that it offers its loans with “clear, up-front terms,” One Main Financial inflated the cost of loans with numerous expensive add-on fees that are buried in dense, fine-print loan documents, the lawsuit alleged.
