Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NYSE-A:OPTT) announced that it has shipped the first PowerBuoy system under its previously announced $6.5 million contract with the US Department of Homeland Security, marking a step toward deployment of offshore monitoring technology for the US Coast Guard. The company said the shipment represents a transition from system development and integration into operational deployment. The PowerBuoy system will support maritime domain awareness operations and is expected to be deployed off the coast of California following final site preparations and readiness procedures. Ocean Power Technologies noted that additional systems under the contract will be deployed as part of a network designed to provide persistent, autonomous offshore surveillance capabilities aligned with DHS mission requirements.
