binding agreements with three major investors , including one co-founded by a Florida billionaire, to sell just over 80% of the company's U.S. assets to American and global investors, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew told employees on Thursday. The alternative was for the app to be banned in this country. The app has been imperiled since August 2020, when then-President Donald Trump first tried unsuccessfully to ban it In 2024, Congress passed and then-President Joe Biden signed legislation requiring TikTok's owner ByteDance to sell its TikTok assets as part of a $95.3 billion foreign aid package , citing national security concerns. Last December, then-President-elect Trump, now a fan of the app, vowed to “save” it and repeatedly delayed the deadlines in hopes a deal could be made. ByteDance told employees on Thursday that the company and TikTok signed binding agreements with three managing investors, Oracle, Silver Lake and MGX, to form a new TikTok U.S. joint venture named TikTok USDS
