Hundreds of Hollywood stars have come out against Paramount's takeover of Warner Bros, claiming the deal to hand control of the studio to supporters of Donald Trump will hurt democracy. Actors, including Jane Fonda , Glenn Close and Ben Stiller, have signed their names on an open letter expressing “unequivocal opposition” to the tie-up, arguing that competition is “essential for a healthy economy and a healthy democracy”. The letter said the takeover “would further consolidate an already concentrated media landscape”, leading to “fewer opportunities for creators” and “less choice for audiences” worldwide. It added: “We are deeply concerned by indications of support for this merger that prioritises the interests of a small group of powerful stakeholders over the broader public good.” More than a thousand actors, screenwriters, producers, directors and publicists signed the letter, which called for Rob Bonta, the California attorney general, to block the deal.
